Section 1: Summary and Price Outlook
> This section highlight the key findings of the research
report with particular focus on changes in the market fundamentals
and prices.
Section 2: Copper Prices
> This section provides an overview of the key trends
in copper prices over the course of the year. The focus is on price movements in various key currencies as well
as any apparent links between copper prices and other commodity
prices.
Section 3: Investment
> This section provides insight into the opaque field
of the impact of investor activity on the copper market and
prices. GFMS provides an analysis of any publicly available
data as well as information obtained through field research.
A discussion of past trends as well as our view of what the
key issues will be for the future are provided.
Section 4: Supply
> Copper supply is characterised by low levels of vertical
integration and related to this there is huge trade in intermediate
products such as concentrate, blister and scrap. Another
issue is the industrys increasing reliance on mine supply
from remote and inaccessible locations. Linked with this is
the political and economic risk associated with next generation
of copper projects. The Copper Survey analyses all the
major issues affecting supply and assess their impact on future
production levels.
Section 5: Trade Flows and Stocks
The section focuses on global trade flows in both copper
concentrates and refined metal. It also provides an overview
and detailed discussion of trends in global stocks of copper.
Section 6: Consumption
A particular focus of the report is end-use trends in
key consuming areas, which are not analysed systematically
in existing research on the copper sector. A significant part
of the field research programme is directed towards establishing
the latest data on such trends. GFMS calculates demand
on both a country and end-use basis. The section also
analyses long term trends in regional demand.
